Chakra is a Sanskrit word for the 7 swirling disks of energy that line up the center of the body, in addition to an 8th one that hovers above the head. Each chakra is associated with specific colors and attributes. In the series of eight silk paintings, I show an X- ray vision of the human body, combined with a dancing figure and a luminous flower that expresses the energy of each chakra. I celebrate the body as a vehicle for the divine by painting women in ecstatic dance.
Chakra 1
The first chakra, or Root chakra, is located at the base of the spine and is the color red. It is about survival, grounding and connection to family and tribe. This painting shows an x-ray vision of the body, depicting the location of the first chakra symbol inside the pelvis, and a woman, grounded and strong, dancing on a flaming red peony.
