Chakra is a Sanskrit word for the 7 swirling disks of energy that line up the center of the body, in addition to an 8th one that hovers above the head. Each chakra is associated with specific colors and attributes. In the series of eight silk paintings, I show an X- ray vision of the human body, combined with a dancing figure and a luminous flower that expresses the energy of each chakra. I celebrate the body as a vehicle for the divine by painting women in ecstatic dance.

Chakra 7
The Crown chakra, is at the top of the head and is the color violet. It represents our conscious connection to Spirit through prayer and surrender. It is the entry point for abundant life force that pours into our bodies from the universe. As we look down on the top of the head, the symbol of a lotus with a thousand petals blooms inside the crown chakra. An iris, infused with grace and light, floats above the earth.
